- Shape — Creates centroids from areas. One centroid is created for each area element found by the fence scan. The active text parameters or cell names are used to define the centroid.
- Boundary — Creates centroids from boundaries. Shape elements are not required as boundary elements found by the fence scan are inferred to be areas. Boundary requires more time than the Area option, but it is advantageous when large complex polygons (with more sides than can be contained in a MicroStation Complex Shape element — about 15,500 sides) are involved.

- Text Node — A data point which determines position of text in a design.
- Cell — A standard MicroStation point or normal cell.
- Zero Length Line — A line whose starting and ending points are the same.
